Exercise Routine and Nutrition

Long story short, I have pretty much worked out all year. Stress and poor nutrition contributed to some weight gain.  I took a month break from working out to focus more on improving my eating habits and putting myself back in line for better health.

Current Exercise Routine-
Daily Walks/Stationary Bike 30-60 mins
During my walks/rides I focus more on deep breathing and clearing my mind. I listen to upbeat music to keep an energetic pace but currently I am not pushing myself to run. I also use this time to either think about any goals I want to accomplish. If I am outdoors, I enjoy the sights and fresh air.

Body Beast (weight lifting program)  This is actually one of my favorite Beachbody programs. I like the pace of the program and the personality of the trainer.
I usually do this portion of my workout in the evening with my husband. 3-5 nights a week. We do not follow the programs actual schedule. We are in our 3rd week. We are spending another week in the Build phase and then next week move to Bulk phase.  I am gonna start being better at documenting my workouts and progress to share.

Current Nutrition Plan-
My goal for the next 30 days is to improve the number of fruits and veggies that I eat daily.  My goal is at least 2 fruits and 4 servings of veggies.  So my mornings are fruit and I have to have a side salad as a snack or with lunch. Then with dinner at least 2 servings of veggies.  My carb limit is 2 times a day. Lean protein 5 times a day- eggs, yogurt, shakeology, chicken breast etc.

WATER

I need more of it. So I am following this schedule to get a decent amount of water in a day. Water before all meals.

This plan  has so far been easiest to follow, without a whole lot of extra thinking. Looking forward to results.

I'm Still Here....UPDATE

I am. I'm STILL Here. It's been a good 8ish months since I took a lil break from all forms of social media.  2016 has been a challenging year for me. I'm not complaining, because it has also been a very productive year as well. However, due to stress I kinda forgot about me. My husband and I have our hands in a few projects and businesses.  Running around taking care of everything and everybody and forgot about lil ol' me. As a family, we've had a lot of fun this year including road trips, visits to Caribbean, a couple weekend getaways, bike riding, zoos, museums, festivals, the beach etc. But, I noticed that I needed to accomplish some personal goals of mine and I've actually taken this month ( I know its only the 12th) to get back to my own goals for myself.

Just yesterday, I sat and thought about what I want for me and my peace of mind. Ive been a licensed cosmetologist for 13 years now.  So hair, makeup, skin care etc have always been my first love. Yesterday, I took a lil time to pamper myself. Facial, steam treatment, foot bath, mani/pedi, brows, color, shampoo and styled my locs. Yes, I do it all myself and it took the whole day but I enjoyed giving me the time and how relaxed I was. That's for sure going back on my calendar, at least once a month.

All year, I have worked out religiously 4-5 times a week. But my weight fluctuated and even went up because of stress, work schedule changes and because our eating habits slowly changed. I took the last 4 weeks off of exercising (other than a few walks, here and there). We mapped out a plan to get back to cooking more, did some rearranging of furniture to make family exercising more doable and set some realistic goals for everyone.

I have a few new changes to my routine that I will be chatting about later and will keep you posted but overall I feel so much happier and things are looking good.

Stay tuned.... :)

Microwave Popcorn in a Brown Paper Bag

There are a couple things my husband banned me from buying. One is Ramen Noodles and the other is microwave popcorn.  In addition to all the salt, he said he checked out the ingredients and didn't like what he saw. Besides, my younger son would over indulge in both so I understood.

No more of these.....

Or these.

I never contested. I just stopped buying them both. (I know what battles to pick!) For the last 2 years or so, we have been making popcorn on the stovetop. No longer on easy street... sending my son to the kitchen to pop his own popcorn.  One of my coaches, told me that we could easily make it in the microwave still. Ive been anxious to try.  So the other day, I taught my youngest son how to make popcorn in the microwave with popcorn kernels and a brown paper bag. And I took a few more pics but I have no clue where they are!

Super easy. Delicious and none of those other chemicals.
Every step in a healthier direction for my family is worth it!

Here's how it goes. You will need:

Popcorn kernels
vegetable oil
salt
brown paper bag

Pour 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels into a bowl

Sprinkle with a little salt and a little bit of vegetable oil.
Pour it all in a paper bag. And fold it down a few times to close it.

Place it in microwave, folded side down.

We popped for 2 minutes.

Came out perfect!

February Recap!

Completed 4 weeks of Focus T25!

I have completed workout programs before but this time 4 weeks feels so goooood!!!!!!

November- January were high stress months for me and February I finally felt like I was getting back in control. I developed a rhythm of waking up and before my day really starts, getting my 30 minute workout in.  Although I LOVE Shaun T, Focus T25 initially wasnt my cup a tea. That was then. Now, it fits so perfectly in my life.  I feel much better and I have worn a couple jackets in the last week that I couldnt get into because I developed back fat during Oct-Dec.  Im great at reminding people to get in their stats- record their weight and measurements and pics. Im horrible at remembering to do my own stats.  So I think I will make it a Monday morning ritual this month.  I will take measurements etc and add them in Monday morning.  I guess its because my stats were never as important to me as consistency and feeling overall fitter.

But here are some workout pics/videos I took during the month.

workout DONE!

Making Time for Me-Time!
Styled my hair a few different ways and wore makeup too. Just a lil goal I set for myself. Allow myself to do some things I used to love before being run over by kids.... Namely my face and hair.  Here are some pics. I graduated from Cosmetology school years ago, worked in the field a bit but for a few different reasons, it wasnt the right time for me. Still have a license and love for it all. And to get back to me, felt good.

Focus for March

  • Continue to dial down the stress level. My list of issues has grown but Im maintaining control.
  • Control My Diet
  • New Sneakers on March 31st
  • Workout Daily- 30 mins cardio and Phase in Body Beast
  • Get my kids out for a walk 1 time a week
  • Me Time Continues..... Hair, Nails, Makeup, Read, Rest.
